The Broken Girls Simone St. James

Image
The Broken Girls Simone St. James Series: NA Rating:  ★★★★ Recommend: Yes Review: It took me a couple of days to gather my thoughts about this book. It is shelved under thriller and horror but it is much more than that. It had me laughing and crying along with being scared. It deals with friendship and grief that I think about the book even better. I loved the two timelines and the 1950 timeline worked well with the 2014 timeline. I really felt what Fiona was going through with her sister’s death, cause I am going through something similar but with my cousin's death. The difference is that I wasn’t young when he was killed but seeing her go through the anger and grief hit me hard. The horror elements in the book with Mary Hand had me on the edge of my seat and I felt the fear the girls were feeling. I liked that it wasn’t the main focus of the story but it still added to it. I will be getting St.James other books and reading them very soon.

Devolution by Max Brooks

Image
Devolution by Max Brooks Series: N/A Rating: ★★★★ Recommend: Yes Goodreads Synopsis: As the ash and chaos from Mount Rainier's eruption swirled and finally settled, the story of the Greenloop massacre has passed unnoticed, unexamined . . . until now. But the journals of resident Kate Holland, recovered from the town's bloody wreckage, capture a tale too harrowing--and too earth-shattering in its implications--to be forgotten. In these pages, Max Brooks brings Kate's extraordinary account to light for the first time, faithfully reproducing her words alongside his own extensive investigations into the massacre and the legendary beasts behind it. Kate's is a tale of unexpected strength and resilience, of humanity's defiance in the face of a terrible predator's gaze, and inevitably, of savagery and death. Yet it is also far more than that. Because if what Kate Holland saw in those days is real, then we must accept the impossible. We must accept that the creature

Bane's Choice by Alyssa Day

Image
I really enjoyed this book and I couldn't put it down. The Vampire Motorcycle Club was great but I wish there was more about it. Now Bane was a good MC, he may have acted like he didn't have emotions but you could tell he cared about his 'family' and plus a few others (don't want to give too much away). I loved Ryan and she was a awesome MC. I loved how she handle everything and that she didn't give up. I will be telling all my vampire loving friends to pick up this book along with other books by Alyssa Day.

Island Secrets by Jacqueline Terrill

Image
If you need a book to read as you relax, then this is a book for you. I just wish it was a tiny bit longer but I still enjoyed it. The characters were believable and great to read about.  I was having a stressful day and this book helped me escape the real world.  I will be telling my friends and fully to pick up this book and author. I also want to thank the author for letting read and review this book.

The Haunting of Blackwood House by Darcy Coates

Image
This story had me hooked from the very start and I could hardly put it down. Mara had me feeling everything she was feeling and I loved it. I am a sucker for a haunted house story and I am glad I picked you this one. I also fell in love with Neil and his mother even though we really didn't see her until close to the end. The twist and turns had me on the edge of my sit, it kept had me guessing which I loved. I will be picking up more of from Darcy Coates and I already have the next book picked out.

A Golden Fury by Samantha Cohoe

Image
“Cohoe transmutes the legend of the Philosopher's Stone into a dark, intoxicating tale of ambition, obsession, and sacrifice. Prepare for a magic that will consume you.” - Rosamund Hodge, New York Times bestselling author of Cruel Beauty and Bright Smoke, Cold Fire I want to start off by saying I am in love with this cover, it is what drew me to the book. Then I read the synopsis and it hooked me even more. Once I started reading I could hardly put it down but I do have to say that the main character Thea Hope was a little too arrogant for me. She did grow on me through out the book along with the others. I was fine with the pacing for the book and it kept me entertained, and it was easy to keep up with what was going on. Towards the end it started to feel a little rushed but it didn't take away much from the story. I just wish there was more, That is why I only gave it three stars, I will be picking up more from this author. I will also be recommending this to my friends cau

Joy to the Wolves by Terry Spear

Image
I could have finished this in a day cause I was loving it that much, but I did need to get some sleep. I loved loved Brooke Cerise and her antique store. I love antique shopping and this book was perfect for me. The characters had me laughing and making me feel like I was right there with them. I loved the chemistry between Brooke and Josh, it was believable even though they were wolves. The treasure hunt her great aunt created for her was wonderful and I loved how excited everyone got when they went hunting for the treasures. This has to be my favorite book by Brooke Cerise and it will be on I will probably I read over and over again. I will be buying this book as soon as it comes out.

Night of the Billionaire Wolf by Terry Spear

Image
I have to say Terry Spear is one of my favorite author and love her wolf series. Night of the Billionaire Wolf was a fun and fast pace book once I stay down to read. If you need a book to get your mind off the stresses then this is the book for you. Lexi Summerfield is a wonder character and I liked that she was the billionaire. You don't see that a lot in romance books and it was nice to see. Watching the stresses she had to deal with and how she stayed positive. I am also in love the Ryder Gallagher and I am glad he never strong-arm Lexi into anything. The secondary characters were great and I was glad to see familiar faces. Now I can't wait to buy the paperback when it comes out. Disclosure: I received this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

Girl, Serpent, Thorn by Melissa Bashardoust

Image
The narration was very easy to follow along, though I did have some trouble keeping up with the characters at some points in the story. I do wish that I knew more about the world Soraya and why people acted the way they did. I just wished there was more and it was a little longer. I did really enjoy the characters even if I hated some. They made the story more interesting and I will be picking up a physical copy of this book very soon.

Chili Cauldron Curse by Lynn Cahoon

Image
I absolutely loved this book and I adore Lynn Cahoon. Her writing style kept me engaged with the story and the characters were easy to love. Mia and her grandmother had me in love from the start and they have me wanting to continues with this series. I can't wait until the full length books is out to get my hands on it.

Murder Most Sweet: A Bookish Baker Mystery (A Bookish Baker Mystery #1) by Laura Jensen Walker

Image
It was a fun read but the some of the characters did get on my nerves. I really couldn't stand Teddie's mother, she was into looks too much for me. What I did like was that Teddie was a strong woman and didn't let anyone push her around. The writing was fast pace and was good quick read. I will be picking up this book as soon as it comes out.

My Little Occult Book Club by Steven Rhodes

Image
I loved this book and the art work. I laughed out loud at some of the books in this. I am going to have to get a physical copy of this. I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Shielded by KayLynn Flanders

Image
It took me about a week to finish this book, because I kept losing my interest. The author's writing wasn't bad, but I didn't really like the characters. I feel like I read the story before and felt the same. I do think this is good for people just getting into fantasy especially children 12 and younger. I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

The Girl from Widow Hills by Megan Miranda

Image
This was my second book by Megan Miranda and I really loved this book.. It had me guessing from chapter one and the twist in it were great. I also loved that you really couldn't trust any of the characters and everyone had something to hide. The writing flowed great and was easy to follow which was great. I can't wait to grab Megan Miranda other adult mysteries. I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

The Court of Miracles by Kester Grant

Image
I have never seen nor read Les Misérables maybe that is why I really wasn't connecting to any of the characters. I didn't mind the writing but the time jumps were a little confusing at times. Maybe later down the road I will give this book anything chance. I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

The Secret She Kept: She’s dead. Why would she lie? by J.S. Ellis

Image
I finished this book in one sitting because I couldn't put it down. It had me hooked from page one and the twist kept me going. I can say I didn't guess the ending like I have with other thrillers . J.S. Ellis kept me guessing which I loved very much. The writing was easy to follow and it flowed very well. I really be picking up Ellis other books now and going out to tell my friends they need to read this book.

Still Knife Painting by Cheryl Hollon

Image
It was hard for me to finish this book because I wasn't feeling a connection to any of the characters. I really didn't mind the writing and I know some friends would really enjoy this book. I will pick up Cheryl Hollon's other series. Disclosure: I received this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

You Had Me at Wolf (Wolff Brothers #1) by Terry Spear

Image
I can't get enough of Terry Spear of her wolf books and this one had me from page one. Nicole Grayson is a PI tracking down a suspect and she lands in Silver Town, Colorado the wolf ran town. At the ski lodge owned by Blake Wolff and his family. I love the characters in this book and I love seeing all the returning characters are great. I can't wait to read more of the series and more of the wolf books.

Sisters of the Perilous Heart (Mortal Heritance #1) by Sandra L. Vasher

Image
I enjoyed this book and it was a good book to read on a rainy day. What I didn't like was one of the main characters Queen Vivian and I couldn't place my finger on why I didn't like her. The other main character Carina was a little more likable than Queen Vivian. I did love the side characters a lot better Max and the two princes. Now the story starts off with Queen Vivian becomes queen but soon is infected by the Immortality Virus by a would be assassin. Her and her brothers set off to find someone to save her. Then we meet Carina and her sister living at a brewery in the mountains with 'Sister' (Like nuns). They were brought there when their parents died. Carina can't control her magic and soon is on the run. I really liked the world building but I just wish there was more about the characters that I liked. The magic system was really interesting and maybe the next book we can learn about it more. I will be buying a physical copy of this book and I will be r

Mayhem by Estelle Laure

Image
It was the tagline that made me want to pick up the book A YA feminist mash up inspired by The Lost Boys and The Craft. How could I resist a book that is a mash up two of my favorite movies? I couldn't really see The Craft in the book but I did love all the references to TLB. I had a huge grin on my face when the Frog brothers showed up in the story. I think there was enough of the references that they didn't take away from the story. They helped add something familiar to the story. The lore around the Brayburns was really well written and very believable. As a character Mayhem Brayburn worked really well and I loved her growth. I enjoyed the darker theme in this book with the murders and magic. I would say there are a few trigger warnings for this book rape, drug abuse, abuse and murder. I have already have recommended this to few of my friends even before I was done reading it. This has to be in my top 5 books I have read so far in 2020 if not my top read this year. Disclos

The Hunt by Jacqueline Terrill

Image
This isn't a book I would normally pick up but the author connected me for an honest review. I am glad they did because it was a good read. By the end of chapter one I was hooked and I could barely put it down so I could sleep. This book shows how things can change in the blink of the eye. It also makes you ask yourself, do you really truly know the person you marry or those close to you? I love the twist and turns this book took me on and the emotions it had me feeling. The characters were good but they did feel a little rushed. With that being said I still felt a connection to them and their lives. I would recommend this book to both my friends and family cause I know they would enjoy this just like I did. I will be checking out Jacqueline Terrill other books now.

A Spell for Trouble (An Enchanted Bay Mystery #1) by Esme Addison

Image
I can't put into words how much I loved this book and I couldn't put it down. It gave me a Little Mermaid mixed with Practical Magic vibe which I loved, they are both my favorite movies. I am a sucker for books were the main characters reunites with family, then finds out about their magical roots. Alex is a great character but she does do something that could cause trouble not just for herself and family but the case as well. As she starts to understand her lost family a dead body makes them the prime suspect. The town of Bellamy Bay, North Carolina is a place I would love to visit and the author did a wonderful job bringing it to life. The writing was very easy to follow and it was fast pace. I could hardly put it down and I would definitely recommend this to my family and friends. I might even have to tell my mom to read it ASAP. Disclosure: I received this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas

Image
It took a day to get my emotions back to normal and off the rollercoaster they were on with this book. It was a little slow in the start in the book with the world building but soon it picked up and it was nonstop. I loved the back and fourth with between Bryce and Hunt well with Bryce and the other characters too. I do have to say Ruhn is one of my favorite characters in this book along with Declan, Tristan and Isaiah. I really hope the next book will have just the same emotional rollercoaster this one had me on.
