Summer of Night by Dan Simmons

It was creepy and uncomfortable and I absolutely loved it. I listened to the audio as I followed along in the physical book. The narrator did great with all the characters especially one of the side characters that was a drunk, he nailed it. Dan Simmons writing kept me hooked and it flowed really nicely without it being info dumpy. I do have to say there are some trigger warnings for animals deaths, you might have to look up other TW before reading the book. It was a good coming of age horror book and I would recommend it to anyone who loves horror and coming of age books. Well I will be recommending this book to all my friends and family. This reads like a stand alone book and you really don't have to read the others in this 'series' but from what others have said I would definitely read the others books. Which that is what I will be doing ASAP.

Lady Killers by Tori Telfer

Lady Killers: Deadly Women Throughout History by  Tori Telfer Series:  N/A Rating: ★★★★★ Recommend: Yes Goodreads Synopsis: When you think of serial killers throughout history, the names that come to mind are likely Jack the Ripper, John Wayne Gacy, and Ted Bundy. But what about Tillie Klimek, Moulay Hassan, and Kate Bender? The narrative we're comfortable with is one where women are the victims of violent crime-not the perpetrators. In fact, serial killers are thought to be so universally male that, in 1998, FBI profiler Roy Hazelwood infamously declared that There are no female serial killers. Inspired by Telfer's Jezebel column of the same name, Lady Killers disputes that claim and offers fourteen gruesome examples as evidence. Although largely forgotten by history, female serial killers rival their male counterparts in cunning, cruelty, and appetite. Each chapter explores the crimes and history of a different female serial killer and then proceeds to unpack her le...

A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik

A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik Series: The Scholomance  Rating:  ★★★★✰ Recommend: Yes Goodreads Synopsis: A Deadly Education is set at Scholomance, a school for the magically gifted where failure means certain death (for real) — until one girl, El, begins to unlock its many secrets. There are no teachers, no holidays, and no friendships, save strategic ones. Survival is  more important than any letter grade, for the school won’t allow its students to leave until they graduate… or die! The rules are deceptively simple: Don’t walk the halls alone. And beware of the monsters who lurk everywhere. El is uniquely prepared for the school’s dangers. She may be without allies, but she possesses a dark power strong enough to level mountains and wipe out millions. It would be easy enough for El to defeat the monsters that prowl the school. The problem? Her powerful dark magic might also kill all the other students. Sold yet? Review: This has to be one of my favorite bo...

The Broken Girls Simone St. James

The Broken Girls Simone St. James Series: NA Rating:  ★★★★ Recommend: Yes Review: It took me a couple of days to gather my thoughts about this book. It is shelved under thriller and horror but it is much more than that. It had me laughing and crying along with being scared. It deals with friendship and grief that I think about the book even better. I loved the two timelines and the 1950 timeline worked well with the 2014 timeline. I really felt what Fiona was going through with her sister’s death, cause I am going through something similar but with my cousin's death. The difference is that I wasn’t young when he was killed but seeing her go through the anger and grief hit me hard. The horror elements in the book with Mary Hand had me on the edge of my seat and I felt the fear the girls were feeling. I liked that it wasn’t the main focus of the story but it still added to it. I will be getting St.James other books and reading them very soon.

Girl, Serpent, Thorn by Melissa Bashardoust

The narration was very easy to follow along, though I did have some trouble keeping up with the characters at some points in the story. I do wish that I knew more about the world Soraya and why people acted the way they did. I just wished there was more and it was a little longer. I did really enjoy the characters even if I hated some. They made the story more interesting and I will be picking up a physical copy of this book very soon.
